Cora

What kind of a dog is Caucasian Ovcharca

Caucasian Ovcharca is an ancient breed, which has been developed in extremely difficult circumstances. As a Sheepdog the main task was to fight against wild animals such as wolves and bears. During the centuries the breed became tough and strong. The dogs had a large head, heavy coat and they were looking wild and shaggy. Survival in difficult and in quickly changing nature developed different qualities for instance quick moulting.

Caucasian Ovcharca is very suspicious by his nature. He is independent and wants to make his own decisions. He is also a brave, well-balanced and smart dog. It is still a sheepdog. I think that Caucasian Ovcharca is still today quite much that primitive dog that it has earlier been.

With this great character Caucasian Ovcharca demands the consistent, assertive leadership of his owner (master). It is very important to remember his basic nature: he is very independence, mistrustful of strangers and he knows his territory. A breeder has once said very well (in my opinion): "Caucasian Ovcharca will never fulfil commands which he consider stupid or unnecessary.”

We had an experience with our Caucasian Ovcharca Jopan Bobby. Even a bear was not too terrifying. Bobby thought that the bear was on his territory, when the bear was climbing up the rocky hill in the neighbourhood of our house, and he went like an arrow after the bear. Thankfully he was only trying to drive off the bear, in fact he got also some hits from the bear, but managed to come safely home to his master.

The experiences our family has from other breeds, we strongly think, that Caucasian Ovcharca and of course Cora, Ellu and Jori are the only right dogs for us.

Jopan Cora

Cora was born on Wednesday morning early at 2 am the 6th of October 2004. The morning was chilly and rainy. Actually it was raining "cats and dogs". Little by little the weather changed to be a fresh and bright day of Autumn. Cora came to our home at the age of 8 weeks, soon after Bobby died. It is true that a little puppy can really take your heart!. Now Cora is an adult Caucasian, but she is still very playful. At the end of April Cora became a mother and she bred ten lovely puppies. The father of the puppies is a handsome Aico Nagazi from Norway. The names of the puppies are Elsa, Elvira, Etna, Edla, Etta and Ellu (6 bitches) and Eetu, Eppu, Elmo and Eka (4 males).

During that one night Cora changed into the perfect dog-mummy. Due to the quite heavy birth we needed also an outside help. Therefore three of the puppies were born in the car on our way to the vet and back home, but Cora knew her duty and everything went fine. Cora took very good care of her puppies and proudly presented her puppies to her friends.

All the puppies have got a new nice home. We kept Ellu for Cora and for ourselves.

Cora loves running in the woods, driving in the car and playing with Ellu. Little children are always welcome to play with her. She also remembers to play gentle with little people. Being a Caucasian Ovcharca Cora is very strict of her territory and she is not saving nasty words if moose, wild deer or foxes are running through the fields around the house – the same thing will happen if there are strangers in the yard.

Jopan Ellu

Jopan Ellu was born early in the morning at 5 am on Thursday 26.04.2007. She managed to choose her birth in the at same kind of weather as her mother. Ellu´s birthday was also the name-day of her mistress. What a wonderful present for the name-day!

As it was told earlier, Ellu is one of those ten puppies Cora had. Ellu was the smallest of the litter and during those first eight weeks she kept her position, although it did not look like that because she had got for the birthday present a fur-coat, which was two numbers too big. Ellu´s motto was “self-control is your asset” – it is still today. The others were free to take their place in the front row, when something good was served. Ellu trusted that she will certainly get her own share – although last. I am sure that Ellu is little bit missing her siblings, where she always found a playmate. Hopefully she can meet at least some of them every now and then and play with.

Ellu has participated a puppycourse in Viitasaari. It was a very good training. There she got used to other dogs and people. Ellu likes to meet other dogs and the size or appearance of the other dog has no meaning.

Ellu has her own toy-box with lots of toys she can practise her dog-habits. The days pas by mostly by playing, eating and sleeping in turns and of course every now and then wrestling with Cora-mummy. Ellu comes to greet confidently everyone she comes across. Of course you have to make sure by sniffing that the atmosphere is friendly. We think that Jopan Ellu is a brave, self-confident, gentle and lively tiny beginning of a large dog.

Jori

There is a new member in our flock. A little handsome fellow Juta has joined us. He will get his whole name after a while when the breeder will get the registration papers, but in our famile we call him Jori.

Jori´s mother is Hankaheimo Briha and father is Fin Ch Ziwago´s Starazi. Jori was born on 18.10.2007. He has seven siblings.
